Alvin Kohatha Newton Obituary

Mr. Alvin Kohatha Newton, age 73, of Beaumont, Texas, left this earth on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

He was born July 20, 1950, in Center, Texas, to parents Alvin and Syble (Andrews) Newton and was raised in San Augustine, Texas. Alvin first moved to Southeast Texas in 1971, and eventually started his cabinetry business in 1973, Newton Cabinet Works. He successfully served his community and recently celebrated his 50th anniversary by being one of the top custom cabinet builders in the Golden Triangle.

Besides being a master craftsman, Alvin was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Deer hunting was no doubt his first love and he acquired many trophies over the years hunting in Mexico, South Texas, and all across the western states. He loved hunting with his family and friends and was absolutely the happiest when doing so. Aside from this business and his love for the outdoors, Alvin was also heavily involved with the 1 in 100 Gun Club where he served as a Board member for many years.

Over his many years, Alvin developed numerous long lasting relationships with so many people and was was truly a pillar in his community. He leaves behind a long lasting legacy where he proved to be a hard working businessman and lover of life. He did things his way and lived by his own rules. Alvin truly was one of a kind.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Newton of Beaumont, Texas; his children, Jon Robert Newton and wife Catherine of Beaumont, Texas, Jenny Newton Lamb of Longview, Texas, and Arthur Carter of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Nicole Busby and husband Zack of Winnie, Texas, Austin Newton of Longview, Texas, Jackson Robert Newton and Jeffery Ryan Newton of Beaumont, Texas; siblings, Brenda McCurry and husband Tommy Saunders of Buna, Texas, Betty Chambers and husband Lane of San Augustine, Texas, Greg Newton and wife Angela of Martinsville, Texas, brother-in-law, Brian P. Blackwell and wife Amy of Batson, Texas; mother-in-law, Doris H. Blackwell of Beaumont, Texas; nieces and nephews, Michael McCurry and wife Jennifer, Stephanie Poe and husband Donald, Crystal Allen and husband Chad, Clint Chambers and wife Brandy, Jonathan Newton, Stuart Newton and wife Laura, Taylor Newton and wife Emily, Brooke Warr and husband Matt, Jessica Harrell and husband Aaron and Michelle Blackwell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Syble Newton, brothers-in-law, William L. "Bill" McCurry and Karl D. Blackwell.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Frank Holrath officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden, located on Hwy. 147 North in San Augustine, Texas.
