GRADY EARL MILLS

Mr. Grady Earl Mills of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at his residence at the age of 84 years, 4 months, 17 days.

Grady Earl was born June 3, 1939, in San Augustine, Texas, to Janie Birdwell Mills and Grady Henry Mills. He attended Mt. Nebo school of San Augustine County before attending San Augustine High School. Grady served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 and worked for the San Augustine Fire Department. He retired from NIBCO in 2001 after 34 years of loyal service. He also immediately went into the lawn mowing business with his brother. He was never one to sit still.

Grady loved watching NASCAR and retelling stories of past drag races with his brother and the many Mills cousins on FM 1. He loved wood carving, puzzle books, and playing 42. He enjoyed restoring used bicycles and keeping a very detailed auto. Two little known skills Grady excelled at was sharpening a blade so sharp it would split hairs and shining shoes you could see yourself in. Grady was a longtime serving member and deacon of Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church.

Grady is survived by his wife 59 years, Nancy Jane Sanders Mills; daughter, Karen Elanie Mills of San Augustine; son, Kenneth Michael Mills of San Augustine; son, Kerry Martin Mills of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Kristy Nicole Mills Stephens (Tony) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandsons, Riley Stephens and Tanner Stephens of Albuquerque; sister, Donnie Butler (Ronnie) of San Augustine; brother Kenneth Pete Mills (Betty) of San Augustine; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Henry Mills; mother, Janie Birdwell Mills; sister, Bonnie Fay Perry; infant son, Kevin Earl Mills (1969); and infant daughter, Kirstina Michelle Mills (1970).

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Randy Mills officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at the Thomas Cemetery, located off Hwy. 21 West.

Pallbearers: Kyle Sanders, Justin McElroy, Malcolm Goff, Tony Stephens, Riley Stephens, and Tanner Stephens. Honorary pallbearers: brother, Kenneth Pete Mills, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Butler
